Free tickets to Oktoberfest and Honk! Parade to Harvard Square Fri 10/8 – Sun 10/10 Boston Metro
Boston's Events Insider, by Johnny Monsarrat
The event of this week is an outdoor brass band festival called HONK. There’s a concert Saturday, and a parade Sunday at 12pm from Davis Square to Harvard Square, which is having an Octoberfest, with 6 live music stages, tons of street vendors, and a tethered hot air balloon ride. It’s free of course, but the event ends with a brass concert Sunday 10/10 at the Somerville Theatre, and I have 4 tickets to give away.
Harvard Square, Cambridge, MA.617-491-3434.

Free tickets to Evan Ziporyn’s A House in Bali Fri 10/8 – Sat 10/9 Boston Metro
Boston's Events Insider, by Johnny Monsarrat
I also have a pair of tickets to give away for Indonesian Opera combined with video, dance, modern music called “Bang on a Can All-Stars”, and somehow it’s all connected to an anthropologist from the 1930s. How often do Indonesian events come to town? Sounds like it’s worth checking out!
Cutler Majestic Theater, 219 Tremont St, Boston, MA.

Laser Fest Fri 10/8 Boston Metro
Boston's Events Insider, by Johnny Monsarrat
The MIT Museum is great to visit anytime, and while I can’t vouch for the entertainment value of the panelists (all pioneers in lasers), they’ll have hands-on activities to play with lasers, Jello, and a lot more.
265 Massachusetts Ave, Cambridge, MA.617.253.5927.

Guy Fawkes Bonfire Sat 10/9 Rhode Island
Boston's Events Insider, by Johnny Monsarrat
Another WTF moment is… a bonfire, live music, burning an effigy, and a re-enactment of an old British execution! Who wouldn’t pay to see that… but it’s FREEEEEEEEEE. (If you can get to Rhode Island.).
Andrea Hotel, 89 Atlantic Ave, Misquamicut Beach, RI.

Although the larger King Richard’s Faire continues, try this Western Mass renaissance faire, featuring an old mansion and museum, the usual vendors and performers, and demonstrations of horseriding and medeival combat.
