|And starting Tuesday is the Scooper Bowl! You pay $8 for charity, and it’s all-you-can-eat ice cream from the best vendors. I went once and ate so much ice cream I nearly hurt myself. It’s the biggest event of its type in the world. Yum! 12-8pm daily.

|Boston Kite Festival||6/6||Boston Metro|
|This one is highly recommended! It’s so much fun to see real professionals do choreographed ‘dance’ with their kites and have kite competitions. Artists will bring their own custom giant flying lobsters and box kites, and you can learn to fly a stunt kite with two strings. Free. 10am-4pm. No rain date. This website not only has no photos, when I click on their logo it says ouch! Don’t click on me! :).

|FIGMENT Festival||6/5||Boston Metro|
|Also part of the fest is FIGMENT, which they’ve refused to describe on their website. They say vague things like “everything is possible” and “celebrates creativity”. Maybe it’s some kind of participatory arts workshopy thing. Or maybe it’s a Burning Man thing. Well, anyway, go to the festival and you’ll see it.

|Quilters’ Connection Annual Quilt Show||6/4 – 6/6||Boston Metro|
|Don’t underestimate this one. I’m a manly man — at least I *think* I’m a manly man — and I was actually quite impressed with the quilt show when I went a few years ago. This is the biggest quiltiny event in New England. The quilts are genuine works of art, and over 200 are on display.

|Flash Mob Anniversary||6/3 – 6/6||Boston Metro|
|Our friends at Boston Misteriosos are doing a “flash mob”, but they’ve refused to say what that is or where it is. Or when. So. Despite a lack of marketing skill, their events are usually great, so I guess you’ll have to do this one on faith. The idea is, you show up in a big mob, and then do something. Hmm.
They wouldn’t tell me, Boston, MA. more
|Country Life Festival @ Enfield Shaker Museum||6/5||New Hampshire|

|New England Celebrates Israel||6/6||Boston Metro|
|Celebrating Israel is free! They’ll have camel and pony rides, a “mock Israeli supermarket” (is that like an obstacle course?), and a Masada rock wall to climb. I don’t know what the Masada is, but I’m quite sure there’s something wrong with calling your climbing wall a Masada. All this makes me want to go even more! 1-5pm.

|Fort Adams Family Day||6/5||Rhode Island|
|I’m always put off by the word “family” in an event name. It’s like code for saying “fun for kids, but boring for adults!” and it’s typical of our loaded society that biases everything towards children. Why shouldn’t I get to sit in Santa’ s lap, too? Ahem. OK, never mind. So. This event is free and they’ll have giant vehicles to touch and explore, and unspecified activities and vendors. Did I mention it’s free?

|The Lady with All the Answers||5/13 – 6/26||Boston Metro|
|I don’t write much about performance. I wait until it’s AWESOME. Did you know that advice columnist Ann Landers helped get the National Cancer Act passed? Or that her competitive sister was Dear Abby? This one-woman act combines comedy and drama, and I’ve just seen it at the new theatre in Central Square. It’s moving and brilliant. You learn a lot and actress Do yourself a favor and actress Stephanie Clayman engages the audience with such questions as, How long have you been married? And How should toilet paper be hung? The real Ann Landers got thousands and thousands of letters and now it’s your turn to join in her poll on American life and advice. GO SEE IT NOW.

|A Midsummer Night’s Dream – Naked||6/2 – 6/19||Boston Metro|
|You’ve seen Shakespeare. You’ve seen it over and over again. So theatre companies go a little nuts trying to present new ideas, like having everyone dress up as Planet from the Apes and doing Shakespeare. Well.. This one has no apes. But they’re naked. The idea is that when the Fairies frolick in the woods, they REALLLLLLLY frolic and they want to show that.

|I have one free ticket to give away to TONIGHT’S show at 7:30pm! This is the world premiere of Johnny Baseball, a musical about the Red Sox! As you can guess, it’s about reversing the “curse”, but it’s also a brainy commentary on racism. They’ll even have an Italian sausage vendor and beer and wine sales on the patio, so come for dinner, too! I’ll be going and will do a full review next week.
Loeb Drama Center, 64 Brattle Street, Cambridge, MA. more
|Sign up early for Spring Wildfire. Fire Arts event.||6/4 – 6/7||Connecticut|
|Finally, this event is for people who want to learn (or show off) fire spinning, and they claim to be sold out (for participants!) But people can still drive up without the intention of camping and watch, right? Right? Actually, I don’t think so. They seem to warn away anyone who’s not serious about fire spinning. Well hell, call ’em.
